You motherf***ers act like you forgot about Dre!

Sorry, I couldn’t resist…

Big things are happening for the 49 year-old Andre Romelle Young, or as most know him, Dr. Dre. The Compton born rapper is allegedly said to have his well-known business venture acquired by apple for a staggering $3.2 billion.

If Apple does go through with the buyout of Beats Electronics, this will place him at the top of the list of wealthiest rappers. But will it be enough to become the first rapper to reach the billion dollar mark? According to Forbes

A sale for $3.2 billion would nearly double the value of Dre’s holdings, though capital gains taxes could take a bite out of his big payday, likely leaving him with a net worth in the neighborhood of $800 million. It’s not quite enough to land on the Forbes 400, but it would easily make him hip-hops richest man, topping current champion Diddy by $100 million.

Even though the video that’s been going around shows him celebrating his entry into the “billionaire boys club” that may not be the case. Still, this is a huge deal that would be good reason for him to crush back a few Heinekens!

Warning: This video features potty language and alcoholic beverage consumption

The business world is going crazy over this story. Just google Dr. Dre and it will be all over the feed. Starting out with overpriced headphones, he’s done pretty well. I mean, I’ve tried on a friend’s pair of beats to see what the rave was about, they’re nothing special IMHO. But apples interest probably lies more within Beats Music streaming service that was introduced to compete with Pandora and Spotify. The story is pretty interesting, but I wanted to talk about Dre’s brand is what it is today.

Personal Brand

What’s so great about Dre?

Where do I start?

Coming straight out of Compton!

Dre was amongst the early rappers who set the stage for what rap is today. He’s been around for years building his name in the rap world and bringing up other successful names as a producer. He’s no stranger in the media. Dre came from a rough background, worked hard, and has done well for himself. He has a LARGE following because of it.

Andre “Dr.Dre” Young built a personal brand and bloated it to where it stands today. With good marketing it’s no surprise Beats by Dre have done so well.

Think about it. If I created “Beats by Jay” would I have done so well? I doubt it.

If you have a strong personal brand and you come out with a product that speaks well with your audience, you have a product that will sell, and it will sell well. I was excited when I first heard of his headphones. Not because I wanted a pair, but I was interested to see how well they would do, and where beats and Dre would go from there. Years later, I’m impressed by the results.

Way to go Dre. Hard work and building a strong personal brand paid off.

The story of Apple’s potential acquisition of Beats Electronics fascinated me. I wanted to write about it and why I think Beats is what it is today.

What do you think of the potential buyout? Where do you think apple will go with the absorption of Beats Electronics? I would love to hear reader’s thoughts on this.
